University of California, Irvine
The University of California, Irvine, also known as UC Irvine, is one of the nations top four-year public research universities founded in 1905 located in Irvine, California, which is 40 miles south of Los Angeles on a 1,470-acre campus. Their school mascot name is the "Anteaters". Irvine competes athletically in NCAA division 1 sports in the Pacific 10 Conference.
The Henry Samueli School of Engineering furthered its ranking among the nation's top engineering graduate schools, putting it 35th on the 2010 U.S. News and World Report's yearly placement of the country's public and private graduate programs. The biomedical engineering program, significantly increased its spot by jumping 10 spots from 2009’s rankings to 30th. UC Irvine libraries include the Jack Langson Library, Libraries Gateway Study Center, the Science Library, Law, and the Grunigen Medical Library.
UC Irvine has over 81 programs for a bachelor's degree, and 51 for a master's degree. The majority of students choose programs in Biology/Biological Sciences, General Psychology, General Social Psychology. Their system is on a quarter system versus a semester system.
